RANDOMNESS ABOUNDS

Many of you have heard of Carmen Miranda, the old-time movie start that was known for wearing fruit on her head. My crazy husband loves using his Photoshop and created the photo you see; I refer to it as "Rick Rubic Cube Miranda" -- lovingly, of course. I hope it elicits a chuckle from you when you see it.

The verdict was read this afternoon in the Derek Chauvin trial and it was gratifying that he was found guilty on all three charges. It won't bring George Floyd back for his family, but I hope they find some solace from what occurred.

Had a meeting at my bank last Friday. I've added Martin to the account, so that when I print out the monthly statement in May, it will list both of our names. That was the last item I needed for the agency we are working with on getting his Green Card. He was worried about the meeting but admitted afterwards that it went better than he ever anticipated. I've already gathered the photos of us from 2015 to the current time; made a copy of our respective passports, a copy of the marriage license; I filled out the I-130 form today. Can't send it in until that bank statement comes in next month, but it's a huge relief that the final step is now almost here and I am certain that we will prevail. After all these years, he is quite excited to know that he will finally be legal in this country. Though to be perfectly honest, I don't believe anyone is "illegal" -- what does that even mean?

He has a dental appointment this Thursday where they will insert his final crown on the tooth they've been working on for the past month or so. Another "problem" out of the way.

My upcoming birthday on May 1 will take me into uncharted territory -- yes, I will be 70! Feels like a large accomplishment, though it's just part of living and it means that I haven't reached the end line as yet. I hope I'm not jinxing myself with that statement...LOL

That's about it for now. Please get vaccinated when it's your turn, if not for yourself, for your fellow man. I've had my two shots of Moderna; Martin had his first last week, will receive his second next month. Stay safe, keep wearing your mask and enjoy what could be a turning point year.

 It's been almost six weeks since I published an article. How time flies! I had my 70th birthday on May 1. Went to a great lunch at my favorite restaurant (La Mediterranee) with Martin and David. They weren't doing inside dining yet, but we had a nice table on the sidewalk area they've set up for dining and the heater next to the table kept us toasty, as it was in the 50s and a bit windy which made it seem colder than it was. I've enclosed a photo of the three of us. The next exiting thing we did was go out to the movies again! In a real movie theater (IMAX no less). Saw "A Quiet Place, Part II" which was very exciting and we all enjoyed it. It was David's first "horror" movie and even he said afterwards that he liked it.  THE RAIN HAS RETURNED Our governor Gavin Newsome recently declared that we are in a draught situation. What with the rain we are now getting, I think that may have been premature. The past 3-4 years have been very dry, with the rain we count on on during the winter months has not occurred. The past 24 hours have been very wet, which is welcome, but due to the fact that the rain is coming too quickly, flood conditions are happening all around the Bay Area. Our neighborhood has not experienced any flooding, which is fine with me. And we really do need the rain. Just bring in gradually, thank you very much. I've been watching the local news and too many areas are in bad shape. Let up with the rain, but keep it coming during the entire winter season please.  MAYNARD MUNN and MILLARD SMITH Disclaimer: some of the following is quite racy in case you don't want to read the entire first paragraph. Maynard Munn was my uncle. I accidently found out recently that he passed away in June 2021. The photo above was a perfect photo for his obituary, as that is exactly how I remember him. He and Millard were together for as long as I knew him, and I recently turned 70, so I believe they were together for over 65 years at the minimum. In his obituary, they described Millard as his "longtime friend and business associate" -- I guess they still couldn't reconcile that they were in actuality, gay. In June of 1967, Uncle Main came up to Michigan to attend my older brother's graduation from high school. Mom pulled me aside and said I had a decision to make.
