THE VANISHING WALLET

I had the strangest day yesterday. I went to Walgreens to renew our Clipper Cards (the cards we use to ride public transportation). His covers both MUNI and BART, whereas my only covers MUNI and it's a Senior Clipper Card (I guess it has something to do with my age...ha ha). After arriving at Walgreens on Geneva Avenue (closest to the apartment), they had a sign stating that the system was down and they weren't doing any Clipper Cards. I hopped on a bus and went a bit farther down Mission Street to the Walgreens across from my bank. Their system was working, so I renewed our two cards to cover the month of March. After I did that, I went to the back of the store to buy some dental products. After waiting in a small line, I got to the register and because of the small purchase price, decided to use cash vs. my ATM/Debit card. I pulled out the wallet and gave the clerk a ten dollar bill and she gave me my change. While waiting for the change, I put the wallet back into my "manpurse" by lifting the flap as I always keep the wallet in the inside part of the purse. Because I didn't want to hold up the people behind me, I took the cash and went outside. When I opened the flap to get my wallet, it wasn't there. I immediately went back into Walgreens to see if by chance I had dropped the wallet instead of putting it in my purse. The clerk went back to look at the video tape and she told me that I had indeed lifted the flap and put the wallet inside the purse. The wallet had "disappeared into thin air" as the saying goes. I still do not understand where it went. 

I went home after that and canceled my credit cards, put a lock on my ATM card, got on the computer to request a replacement driver's license, and all the other things that I had to do because of this situation. Later that evening, I thought that I had neglected to ask the clerk to check the tape a bit further to see if by chance the customers behind me had picked up "something" on the floor, so I went back to Walgreens this morning, they checked the tape, and no one had done any such thing. I am still flabbergasted that the wallet seemed to just disappear.

I went out later today and found a new wallet, so I'm all set now, but I'm still cannot figure out how the wallet disappeared. I know I did not drop it on the sidewalk, because when I opened the flap, it wasn't there to take it out of the purse. Where did it go?

 It's been almost six weeks since I published an article. How time flies! I had my 70th birthday on May 1. Went to a great lunch at my favorite restaurant (La Mediterranee) with Martin and David. They weren't doing inside dining yet, but we had a nice table on the sidewalk area they've set up for dining and the heater next to the table kept us toasty, as it was in the 50s and a bit windy which made it seem colder than it was. I've enclosed a photo of the three of us. The next exiting thing we did was go out to the movies again! In a real movie theater (IMAX no less). Saw "A Quiet Place, Part II" which was very exciting and we all enjoyed it. It was David's first "horror" movie and even he said afterwards that he liked it.  THE RAIN HAS RETURNED Our governor Gavin Newsome recently declared that we are in a draught situation. What with the rain we are now getting, I think that may have been premature. The past 3-4 years have been very dry, with the rain we count on on during the winter months has not occurred. The past 24 hours have been very wet, which is welcome, but due to the fact that the rain is coming too quickly, flood conditions are happening all around the Bay Area. Our neighborhood has not experienced any flooding, which is fine with me. And we really do need the rain. Just bring in gradually, thank you very much. I've been watching the local news and too many areas are in bad shape. Let up with the rain, but keep it coming during the entire winter season please. On another subject altogether, I have a program on my computer that allows me to transfer cassette tapes (which I used to use to record music) into MP3 files, which I then transfer onto CDs (remember those?) and I have all my old m...

 MAYNARD MUNN and MILLARD SMITH Disclaimer: some of the following is quite racy in case you don't want to read the entire first paragraph. Maynard Munn was my uncle. I accidently found out recently that he passed away in June 2021. The photo above was a perfect photo for his obituary, as that is exactly how I remember him. He and Millard were together for as long as I knew him, and I recently turned 70, so I believe they were together for over 65 years at the minimum. In his obituary, they described Millard as his "longtime friend and business associate" -- I guess they still couldn't reconcile that they were in actuality, gay. In June of 1967, Uncle Main came up to Michigan to attend my older brother's graduation from high school. Mom pulled me aside and said I had a decision to make.
