URINARY TRACT INFECTION
Early last Friday evening around 5pm, I had the urgent need to go to the bathroom. I thought of it as driving down the freeway and seeing a sign that said "next rest area 50 miles" and my thought was "Oh shit, I am not going to make it that far." After going to the bathroom, the same thing happened about a half hour later. This went on all night long; I did not sleep at all because I had to keep getting up to run to the bathroom urgently.
At Martin's urging, I finally relented Saturday afternoon to go to the ER, as you can't reach the doctor on a Saturday. Because we use public transportation, I knew I'd never make it as it would take over an hour on the bus to get there, so I called Lyft and it only took ten minutes. As soon as we entered the ER entrance, I asked if I could use the bathroom because I had to go "real badly" and after taking my temperature, they allowed me to use the restroom. We then went to the check-in area and shortly thereafter, I was admitted into a room for them to work their magic. I was hooked up to an IV, they took blood, and started doing all the tests necessary to determine what was wrong. Once they started doing tests, Martin was not allowed to stay in the room with me. I knew that was problematic as he is the biggest worrier around. He told me later that he called just about everybody he knew, trying to get calmed down.
After I went through the first IV, they gave me a second one and then I just rested until the tests started coming back. It turned out I had a mild urinary tract infection; they had originally thought it might be serious but were glad to report that it was minor. I was given the option of staying in the hospital for one night or go home. I took the "go home" option as I knew Martin would want to play Florence Nightingale. They gave me a prescription, told me to drink plenty of water and take the medication.
I was already feeling better the next morning, though just helping Martin make the bed made me tired, so I knew I wasn't back 100% yet. I am now feeling quite good and know I am on the mend. Disaster averted. Hope I don't have to go through that again, but it's in the past now.
I watched the Super Bowl yesterday and was very disappointed in the commercials. They are usually the highlight of the day but not a single one of them even made me smile. Worst ones ever in my opinion. I did like the outcome of the game though, as I've been following Tom Brady since he was the quarterback at University of Michigan, and to think he is 43 years old, a pretty nice accomplishment.
That's it for now, take care, stay safe and wear a mask.
